Kids: Early Literacy Ages 0-4

This program promotes early literacy skills that encourage life-long reading. Complete six or more activities from the CHPL Early Literacy Mission to earn your badge, win a free book, and be entered into a raffle for our Early Literacy Prize Basket.
Kids: Ages 5-11

Every minute of reading earns you 1 point! 300 minutes of reading logged unlocks new mini-games and story times. Spend your “Points” on raffle tickets for one of TEN Kids Prize Baskets awarded at the end. Every time you log reading minutes you are automatically entered into a Weekly Prize Drawing for a $5 gift card to Five Below. Weekly Drawing winners are selected every Monday. You must have logged at some point during the previous week to be eligible for the Gift Card drawing.

Summer of Love Fest
Saturday, June 24, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Kick off the summer with a festival full of friendship, kindness & unity! Live band, Taggart, will be covering hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. We’ll also have craft stations, food trucks and more! Don’t forget to sign up for summer reading while you’re here! All ages. Friendship Grove.

Family Fort Night*
Friday, July 21, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Join us for an after-hours “camping” experience! Bring blankets and pillows to create your ultimate fort in the stacks. Join us around the “campfire” for stories, songs and snacks. Hot dogs and smores snack bags will be served! All ages. Please use group registration to register ALL family members that will be attending.

Tie-Dye Open Hours
Saturday, July 29, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Bring your own white 100% cotton shirt, socks, bandanas, etc. to the library’s backyard! We will have buckets of fabric dye, rubber bands and someone to show you the right way to tie up your shirt to make the patterns you want.
Open to Kids & Teens (Adult session is in the morning).

Talewise: Science Heroes!*
Wednesday, August 2, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A high-energy performance that uses a story to teach science! Using the theme of, “Saving Earth Together,” this exciting, hands-on STEM show is crazy fun!

Eyes of the Wild with LIVE Animals!*
Wednesday, August 16, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
This program is just for Summer Reading registrants and features exotic rescue animals from Eyes of the Wild. Visiting animals MAY include a wallaby, coatimundi, alligator, groundhog, or an Australian sugar glider. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. All ages. Conference Center.

Summer Scavenger Hunt
Monday, June 26, through Saturday, July 31
Try your luck at matching book characters hiding around the Youth Services floor. Children who complete a scavenger hunt sheet will receive a prize!

Lego Free Build
Thursdays, July 6 & August 3, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Come use our huge collection of LEGO building blocks to create your own masterpiece. This is a drop-in program with no registration required. Grades K-5.

Barking Book Buddies*
Mondays, July 10 & August 7, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Take a turn reading to a therapy dog. Register for a 15-minute session. Presented in partnership with Tri-State K-9 Crisis Response Team. Ages 6-11.

Absolute Beginner’s Ukulele Club*
Tuesdays, July 11 & August 8, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
This fun, informal program is appropriate for brand new ukulele learners in grades 3 through 5. We’ll learn about the different parts of the ukulele, tackle basic strumming, and learn a few chords. We’ll have several ukuleles on hand, thanks to a generous donation from Ohana Ukuleles!

Music and Movement*
Wednesdays, July 12 & August 16, 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Let’s sing songs, dance, and make music, all while building on important pre-literacy skills and most importantly, having fun! Parents and caregivers are encouraged to engage and participate with their children. This program is appropriate for children ages 2 to 5.

Family Dance Party
Wednesdays, July 19 & August 9, 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Geared towards kids ages 2 through 5, this program is designed to get everyone up and moving. With fun, upbeat music and easy-to-follow dance routines, caregivers are encouraged to join in the fun and dance with their little ones. So put on your dancing shoes and get read to boogie at the library! No registration required. Conference Center.

Intermediate Ukulele Club*
Tuesdays, July 25 & August 22, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
