Welcome to our Summer Reading page! To register for our program and log your reading, visit our ReadSquared website. Our program is divided by age group. For details on your specific program, including special Summer Reading events and prizes you could win, click the appropriate link below.

Summer Reading for Pre-Readers
This program is designed for kids in preschool to encourage life-long reading habits. Print out the the bingo sheet linked above and cross off each box after you complete the activity.

Summer Reading for Kids
This program is designed for kids in grades K-5 to encourage life-long reading habits. For every 300 minutes you read, you will earn 300 points which count as 1 raffle ticket. Collect raffle tickets to use toward one of our awesome prize baskets for kids! Also, every 300 minutes of reading will unlock new digital games and virtual story times!

Remember, 300 points (300 minutes of reading) equals 1 raffle ticket. Use your raffle tickets toward any of the prize baskets listed below. Some baskets may appeal to different grade levels.

Cooking Basket (all ages)
Includes: Mom & Me Cookbook, Sam Choy's Cooking, Tailgating Recipes, Cooking tools, Apron & Chef hat & Gift Certificate for guaranteed registration to Jr. Chef.

American Girl Basket (all ages)
Includes: American Girl books, American Girl doll, American girl jewelry craft kit, American Girl Accessories.

Science Basket (Grades K-5)
Includes: Science books for kids (Kitchen Science Lab for Kids, Cool Science Experiments, 365 Science Experiments), A microscope, Disgusting Biology kit, and a Brainbending Science kit.

Elephant & Piggie Basket (Grades K-2)
Includes: Mo Willems books (Elephant and PiggiePigeon Book Set), an Elephant stuffed animal, a Piggie stuffed animal, and We Are in an ART-ivity Book.

Bad Kitty Basket (Grades K-2)
Includes: Bad Kitty books (Bad Kitty for President, Bad Kitty School Daze, Bad Kitty vs Uncle Murray, Bad Kitty Meets the Baby, Bad Kitty Drawn to Trouble), a Bad Kitty Picture Book, Make Your Own kitty squishy kit, and a Bad Kitty stuffed animal.

Gutman Basket (Grades K-3)
Includes: Miscellaneous Dan Gutman books and Miss Bernard is a Wild Card Game.

Fairy Tale Basket-Pamper Yourself Royally! (Grades 2-5)
Includes: Fractured Fairy Tale books, DIY BathbombsUnicorn Mirror, Unicorn playing Cards, and a Spa Kit.

Graphic Novel Basket (Grades 3-5)
Includes: Graphic novels (Smile, Ghosts, Big Nate, Big Nate Out Loud, Invisible Emmy, Just Jaime, Geeky Fab 5, Cub, Share Your Smile: How to), an art kit, and drawing paper.

Rick Riordan Basket (Grades 3-5)
Includes: Books (Throne of Fire, Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, Serpent's Shadow, Storm Runner, Serpent's Secret, Dragon Pearl, Sal & Gabi Break the Universe, Santorini by Spin Master Games), A Camp Halfbood T-Shirt , & Zeus on the Loose game.

Coding Basket (Grades 3-5)
Includes: Star Wars Coding Projects, Coding Games, Girls Who Code, Roller Coaster STEM Challenge toy, and a Girls Who Code novel.

Summer Reading for Teens
This program is designed for students in grades 6-12. Read books, write reviews, and attend events to earn points towards gift card drawings and raffle prizes!

Weekly Gift Card Drawing
Each week during the summer, one teen who has logged at least one book that week will be randomly drawn for a $20 Amazon gift card!

Each time a teen logs one book, they earn a raffle ticket to spend on one of 3 grand prizes:

Summer Reading for Adults
This program is designed for adults ages 18 and up. Read books, write reviews, and attend events to earn points that you can redeem for grand prize raffle entries.

Adult Story Times
Throughout the summer, starting on June 26th, we will publish virtual adult story times that you can enjoy from home. Stories will be read aloud by our Adult Services librarians and made available on our YouTube Channel and Instagram page (@CHPLNJ). Be sure to follow us on both platforms so you never miss one! Earn bonus summer reading points by submitting the secret code hidden in each story time video!
