Modern Astrology: A resource guide by your CHPL Librarians
Compiled and annotated by Melissa Brinn, Young Adult Librarian, August 14 2020
Astrology has always captured imaginations, but in recent years it has enjoyed a rise in popularity as a fun interesting way to relate to oneself and others. As part of WizardFest 2020, we are sharing this list of recommended print and digital resources on astrology.

Note:  We point you towards these resources not to suggest they be substituted for guidance from your own spiritual or religious leaders, but rather to provide interested readers with resources to further explore this hobby and pastime. (Or for anyone who just wants to find out what all their friends mean by “mercury is in retrograde”!)

Recommended Print Resources

The Astrology of You and Me: How to understand and improve every relationship in your life (Gary Goldschneider)
Steer your life by the stars and make all your interpersonal relationships shine. This beautifully designed, horoscope-driven handbook will teach you to bring energy to your relationships and divine the true nature of personalities using the power of astrology.

Teen Astrology: The Ultimate Guide for Making Life Your Own (M.J. Abadie)
Why an astrology book just for teens? This is the ideal time for you to learn to understand your own inner dynamics and go after the life you really want. And astrology is a wonderful tool for gaining insight into oneself and one’s relationships with other people.

Queer Cosmos: The Astrology of Queer Identities and Relationships (Colin Bedell)
Queer Cosmos is a contemporary, fresh look into astrology, personal insight, and relationships for the LGBTQ+ community! This book explores astrology as an antidote to feelings of hopelessness and provides language for authentic practices of self-expression. Leaving behind gender-normative pronouns and assumptions, Queer Cosmos explores more nuanced patterns of the archetypal energies expressed in queer experiences.

Moon Lists: Question and Rituals for Self-Reflection (Leigh Patterson)
Inspired by vintage workbooks from the 70s and the monthly lunar cycle, Moon Lists is a guide to expanding the creative, personal, and emotional self in a provocative, unpretentious way. This guided journal asks you to slow down and reflect, once a week, on the recent past.

It's Written In the Stars! (Children's Astrology Series, Sterling Publishers)
This series of books shines a light on each signs' strengths, weaknesses, what you are capable of, and the opportunities you shouldn’t miss. Use it to gain a better understanding of who you are, and who you might become.

Recommended Apps

Co-Star (Apple & Google Play)
Our astrology-enthusiast librarians recommend Co-Star for getting started with generating your own astrological chart and profile. The minimalist, streamlined design and user interface sets it apart from other astrology mobile apps.

Sanctuary (Apple & Google Play)
